Mother’s Tongue

Today in class we read and discussed “Mother’s Tongue”. Mother’s Tongue tells about a woman and her mother who speaks different Englishes. When her mother talked she used an accent due to her Chinese background. The woman understood her mother when she spoke even though nobody else did. They thought she was talking funny and sometimes mixed the way she spoke.

The Lesson Of Commas

Today in class we read everyone’s blog posts from yesterday’s discussion. Mostly everyone wrote about the story told by the Latin woman. Because there were so many comma errors in most of our posts, we were taught a lesson about the 8  comma rules. A comma plus a fanboy goes between two complete sentences to help keep them together. A comma also goes in between a city and a state. For example, Los Angeles, California. Commas are so important in our daily life especially when you write the date. Today is Wednesday, August 28, 2019 , and I’m excited to see what tomorrow has in store for me.

The Myth Of The Latin woman

Today in class we read a story about a lady being stereotypically labeled as she traveled to different places. She was often called “Maria” because of her Latina origin, and was treated differently by others. She stated “ If you were a Latina, especially one like me, who belongs to Rita Moreno’s gene pool, the island travels with you.” By this she meant that leaving her country didn’t really change her identity because people still stereotypically judged her wherever she traveled to.
